Certified Professional by the American Heart Association - Tobacco Treatment

In a collaboration with the Association for the Treatment of Tobacco Use and Dependence (ATTUD), the American Heart Association (AHA) has designed the Certified Professional by the American Heart Association - Tobacco Treatment (CPAHA-Tobacco Treatment) certification for tobacco treatment efforts.

The CPAHA - Tobacco Treatment program offers individual professionals a self-directed opportunity to validate their knowledge and experience in foundational tobacco treatment principles and care delivery. Upon successful completion of all certification requirements, professionals are eligible to receive a certification award and credentials for individual recognition.

Exam Details:

The certification exam will be delivered by Meazure Learning and candidates will have 3 hours to complete the exam. After completion of required prerequisites and purchase the product, candidates will receive notification within 3 business days via email from Meazure Learning with details on how to schedule the exam when ready. Upon passing the exam, the American Heart Association will award the professional with CPAHA certification and credentials for individual recognition in accordance with provided branding guidelines.  

Access to the Candidate Handbook is included. You can access the handbook from within the program. The Candidate Handbook contains information on content outlines, maintenance requirements, sample questions, and more.  

Eligibility Requirements:  

• Associate degree level of education or higher

  • With recommended study focus areas in social/humanities

Prerequisite Requirements:  

• Completion of an accredited Tobacco Treatment Education Program

• For professionals who completed an accredited Tobacco Treatment Specialist Program before 9/30/2021, please upload proof of completion here.

Exam Specifications:  

• 175 total questions (150 scored questions, 25 unscored questions)

• 3 hours to complete the exam. 

• Exam will be live remote proctored by Meazure Learning

Certification Maintenance:  

• Certification is valid for 3 years.

• Before expiration, 20 CE credits in outlined tobacco treatment subject areas will be required for recertification.

• Certification maintenance fees are due prior to expiration. 

• Individuals may opt to retake the exam at full cost in lieu of continuing education credits.
